Hello, this is Kate, I'm jumping in for Jen since she just went on maternity leave.

The areas that Jen mentioned (Leadership & management experiences; teamwork experiences; analytical skills; people & project management) are definitely all skills that b-schools will be looking for. It may not be possible to get experience in all of them though (especially in a technical field as you point out) and that's just fine. I think the point here is that you should be thinking about differentiating and stretching yourself. For example, even if a typical computer engineering role doesn't include people management responsibilities, are there interns or junior engineers that you can mentor informally? Can you volunteer to serve on company special projects or committees to gain experience working on a cross-functional team? Even if you can't take on a formal Project Manager role, can you shadow one or serve in that role on a small project? These are just a few examples to give you an idea of how you can be thinking about making an impact.

Hope this helps and as Jen said, definitely keep us posted if we can help down the road - we're happy to weigh in!
