I have gone through several verifications during employment and I know several people who went through the BSchool verifications have as well and shared about it on GMAT Club - usually it is acceptable to be working for a client as a consultant. e.g. I have listed Chevron as my employer on the resume even though I have worked through a contracting company (I was in their office, worked for them, was just paid as 1099 instead of W2). It is acceptable to say you have worked for Chevron rather than Joe's Staffing Co. It is not considered inaccurate or exaggeration and is an acceptable approach in my experience. I have brought it up on the call with the person who was collecting my references and tried to delicately explain feeling bad about it, but she cut me off and said it was just fine and she did not need my explanation, just the name of the staffing company.

Hope this helps

hi I am wondering how does Re Vera contact our recommenders? By phone or email? How about for international applicants?

They do not verify your recommenders. That's why the schools ask for corporate emails and ask recommenders to write directly to them rather than go through the candidate.

You have nothing to worry about here.

I've give every really simple advice about non-standard employers, work roles and recommenders. Focus on doing an exceptional job on the depth, clarity and focus around them. There's no point trying to manage their "non-standard" appearance -- admissions will see right through those efforts.

Focus instead on building a unique personal brand around them -- so you build appeal from the perspective of diversity in the incoming class.

Exception essays naturally tone down skepticism. Why? Because it takes effort and effort implies commitment, character and past success.

I thought they did contact the recommenders no? Has this recently changed? Are we talking about the recommenders for mba admissions?

I have been a recommender for a few people and have never gotten any kind of a call, email, verification of any kind.

Question regarding verification, the school I was admitted to has a deadline to complete this, but I haven't heard anything from Re Vera in weeks (over a month now). I contacted the school to see if there is anything I can do to help since the deadline is one week from today. Could the fact that Re Vera does not complete the verification by the deadline hurt my chances at matriculating?
