Too many times, way more than I would like, I have had applicants come up to me and tell me their profile is average. Even when I had originally been impressed with it. They will ensure that I know why their amazing accomplishments aren’t really impressive.
My point is, applicants readily look up similar profiles and compare themselves while concluding they are just one of the hundreds of applicants that apply to business schools every year.
It’s 2020! If the first quarter of this year has taught us anything, it’s to identify and deal with a threat immediately. And your thinking that your profile is the same as the next guy is the threat here.
You might come from an oversaturated MBA pool like IT applicants, applicants with a finance background, or applicants who wish to be investment bankers or consultants. But that doesn’t mean you’re the same as every other IT or Finance guy.
An Indian IT applicant who worked at an MNC would be considered an average profile by many. But I have the pleasure of knowing such an applicant who ended up with over 3 Crores in scholarships from 4 out of the 5 schools she applied to.
She also believed that she was just another applicant in the pool of Indian IT applicants but her acceptance and scholarships to top US business schools proved otherwise. And this was achieved by simple things like streamlining her narrative and her having a deep understanding of her goals.
Here is an elaborate analysis of her application.

Drop the lack mentality, and build a ROCKING MBA application!
