Indian School of Business ISB is a very young school - it was founded to address the shortage of managers with proper management education in South Asia (India to be more specific). The concept of a management school was thought up a bunch of Indian businessmen lead by Rajat Gupta (currently serving as a special advisor on management reforms to the Secretary-General of the UN) in 1996. The focus of the school was to be on aspirants keen on working in India or Indian firms abroad. The first batch of students joined ISB in 2001 and passed out one year later. An executive MBA was soon launched thereafter. Hence it is not a very mature school - not even ten years old! Institution and Course Structure : The course itself is one year long and is known for its rigor. Each year is divided into eight terms - each term lasting 5-6 weeks in length. The first four terms are the core terms and have no electives. The second four terms are the elective courses - there are over 70 electives to choose from. As per the information session I attended last year, the number of contact hours at ISB with the teachers/professors was over 700 hours in the full course and can go to 900 hrs depending on the electives chosen. ISB works on the concept of visiting faculty. The number of permanent faculty is just 30. However, faculty from three schools: Wharton, LBS and Kellogg visit the school for one term and take up courses for the full term (i.e. 5-6 weeks). At anytime there are up to 100 faculty members teaching at ISB. This gives the school the advantage of a world class faculty. Known for its spicy cuisine (biryani anyone?) and is now a rapidly developing city with many software firms like Microsoft, Insosys, Wipro, TCS etc. located there. The campus is located in Gachibowli, Hyderabad. It enjoys the locational advantage of being close to the campuses of Microsoft, Infosys and Wipro. Hi anmol, I don't want to sound mean. I will suggest to give it a try if you think you have very strong application - a very unique job profile like fresco or participation in major international level EC events where you displayed leadership qualities or some out of world initiative which helped your state or company tremendously or have some award given by the President.

Otherwise please consider for a GMAT re-take, specially if you are from IT background.

Hello, I am fairly a newbie to this forum and often was a sneaker. Your civil engineer thingie caught my eye. I am one as well and as I read through postings in this forum and else where, I fret over the exposure to competitive management that typical IT people have even in their early stages of career as opposed to civil engineers in bigger firms or even consulting size firms. How do you plan on matching or presenting your profile. Anyways, nice to see a fellow royal. I am not applying this year.

Extremely useful tips!!
But m finding it really difficult to mention all the below points in 300 word limit...
Wd be really helpful f u cd mention the word count ur essay had for each of the below mentioned pts.That wd give a rough idea on which all points to give more emphasis on.

Essay 3: Briefly assess your career progression till date along with your assessment of your future career goals. Discuss how your career goals will be met by the ISB’s one year program. (300 words max)

Again, this essay would be like a story. You can start from your under graduation, mention why you chose the subject and how you moved to the particular industry.
Mention your achievements / major awards / promotions in the essay.
Also mention what you have done so far to move towards your post-MBA career goal.
Be very precise and clear on your thoughts about why MBA will help you achieve your career goal
Be very specific about your career goal and clearly specify role, industry, sector etc. For example, if you say consultancy, then make sure you specify what kind of consultancy, sector (IT, HR, Management etc) and what companies you are targeting (specify 2 or 3 names). Also make sure that these companies visit ISB campus

Hi Aria, there is no specific word-limit for each and every point I mentioned. It would all depend from case to case, from applicant to applicant. Everyone has different no. of exp and are from different background.

What I remember is that I had 4 paragraphs in my 3rd essay. As I mentioned in my previous post:

When you start writing the essay, don't worry about the word limits, write as much as you want - maybe 400-500 words or even more. Once you think you have written all the things, start deleting the sentences / words which you think are not important.

For ISB the 80% GMAT score distribution is 680-760 with average being 716. At the sametime ISB has admitted applicants with score as low as 600 provided you have a very strong application.

Hi anmol, there is no minimum score requirement for AWA. As far as I know ISB gives little weightage to AWA score but that should hardly impact your application.

Not sure, my essays and interview were quite good. It could be lack of some strong leadership initiatives and awards in my profile that weakened my application.

IT sector is the sector in which competition is tough. Generally adcom compares ones profile with candidates from the same sector and I'm sure that there would quite a lot of IT people with exceptional profile.
