In this question we have to identify the flaw in the assumption. The author states that after infancy the physiological capacity to hear deteriorates with age. Hence the observed difference in the abilities of infants and young adults to distinguish between acoustically similar speech must be the result of physiological deterioration of hearing. He has no given enough evidence to establish this correlation. The author concluded this just from a mere observation. Hence that is the flaw in his statement.Hence the answer happens to be "E."
