I have read about INSEAD that the number of admits in R1 and R2 are nearly the same. They also say that a particular nationality shouldn't be over-represented (not > 10%).

Does it mean that they do not take more than 10% of a particular nationality in each of R1 and R2 ?

If above is the case, then as an Indian applying to INSEAD, R1 and R2 are equally good for me and I would rather work on my essays and apply in R2. If above is not the case, then I need to apply in R1 in order to have a better chance of getting in.

Comments from applicants and current/ex-INSEAD students welcome.

No, does not mean that. They don't break it down to have even distribution between the rounds. They even made a special note in the info session that if you're a French engineer or Indian IT you should apply as early as possible without sacrificing you application quality since they will fill up overly representative spots quickly.

The later rounds are more for backfilling with unique profiles.

++

In general, put your best app forward. But if you know INSEAD is a target school for you, I would encourage you to apply early. As an example, in R1 for 2011J there are already 24 Indians admitted.

Wait? R1? the apps aren't due for 2011J term though.

My heart skipped a heartbeat when I read 24 already admitted to start in Jan 2011. Then I saw the clarification.

May be I am being dumb!
I still didn't get the clarification :oops:

sm332, could you please elaborate what you meant there because I believe INSEAD starts assessing the applications and rolling out the decisions only after a particular round's deadline :?:

cheers,
vivek

I am not sure I understand the question ... the apps for Jan 2011 start are not due till early Mar. However, R1 & 2 for Sept 2010 start have already gone by. Please check the website for the most accurate deadlines.

i have the same understanding here. They are heavily going for as much diversity as possible so if you feel you have a common profile the advice is to go for R1. Also, if you are looking at scholarships, then definitely apply in R1.

Typically, Indians account for one of the largest body of applicants to schools like INSEAD. Again, a significant majority of these applicants tend to have an IT profile. So, for an "Indian IT" profile (especially Male), IMHO it would be best to try and apply in R1 itself.

HTH.
