Remember seeing this one before.
I guess "made up for" is the correct usage.

He made up for his mistakes by apologizing.

Buzz, don't you think (D) is ambiguous and passive? E flows a little cleaner in the active voice...

The focus has to be "He". In E we can see that. E is my choice.

This SC had me thoughtless at first instance.
Just picked the choice for the familiar use of "made up for" :oops: .
E looked good but then I think it misses a comma before second he. :roll:

Between B and D chose D first. I guess, would have got it wrong on exam day by choosing D....

After taking a good look, i feel that "for" is redundant in D. hence B should be the answer.

C is having tense problem.
E got he at the end and So picked D.
