Rhyme, do you think admissions would feel insulted if I answered that I didn't think I "needed" an MBA, but I felt it would greatly help with my career progression? Or should I just answer the why I need an MBA question with why I think it would help. Its a small difference in wording, but I'm just wondering if they would prefer someone bold, who doesn't think they necessarily need the MBA to be successful, or do they like someone who feels that they need the MBA from that specific university to be successful?

I'd postulate this question to you: As an adcom would you want to give the last spot to someone who needs an MBA or someone who merely thinks it could be helpful? To put it differently, would you want to admit someone who strongly believes the program at your school will help them achieve their goals or someone who thinks itll probably be "pretty helpful"?

I have been given a list of 9 Columbia alumni from the bay-area. Now I have to reach them and then fix an interview date with one of them.

Do 2007ers (or 2008ers) have any suggestions for me about this process? Any suggestions on how I should get information on these interviewers to find who will suit me better? Then what exactly to say (and ask) to these alumni to consider interviewing me? And on what basis should I finally choose one of them?

thanks!
its for SDSU.. its actually a sports MBA!
so i am deifntely going to have to answer why MBA? why sport? long term.. short term.. but, i dont want to be merely restating my PS!
i really think being myself will help, i am a very outgoing person! i have a solid GPA (3.8) and hoping for an 'avg' GMAT score! the schools avg is 600.... also, i have alot of diverse work experience with sports!!!!

im not really nervous tho, i kind of thrive in interviews! lol i just want to be prepared!!!!
i was thinking about writing out notes in front of me.. but i thinkk that will come across as staged perhaps!

Point well taken Rhyme. And I do need the MBA. So, I shouldn't have a problem with that.

A sports MBA sounds interesting. But, how legitimate are your chances of becoming something like a GM of a professional team with a degree like that? Does the sports MBA just hurt your chances in the future if sports doesn't work out?

If UCLA was in SD, that'd be my first choice.
