Full blown suit. Leave nothing to chance. Think of it as an interview at Goldman or Blackstone (in fact mine was at a large PE fund office). First impressions matter..

What is the norm for interview attire? Suits? Causal?

this question will be asked a million times (maybe a sticky is in place during this interview season?) and there will be a million different answers.

Let me throw mine in again.

Ask the interviewer. if it's adcom => suit. If it's alum, ask the alum specifically what they prefer. If the have no preference, then go by which company they're working for. Banking tends to be suits. Tech companies (like Yahoo, Google) tend to be business casual.

What about when you're going somewhere COLD! Is it okay to wear a formal sweater underneath the suit?

How many times is this gonna get asked this week. Depending on location I would say suit or business casual. With an adcom=suit. With alum in an unprofessional setting=BC.

With Alum in a professional environment then suit. I'd only wear BC if invited for a "bar" of for a Saturday interview, but hey, that's me.

I wore a shirt and tie w/ dress slacks but not a suit for an interview with an alum. He showed up in similar dress, but it was in a starbucks. I could have gone either way but I didnt feel like spending 2 hours traveling to boston in my suit.

I think (and this may be obvious) that this depends heavily on the part of the country and the location of the interview. I am in the Northwest, and for my Michigan interview at a coffee shop I wore charcoal wool pants and a dark blue button up shirt. My interviewer wore jeans and a sort of heavy waffle-pattern tee shirt. If I had worn a suit, or even probably a blazer I would have looked out of place and silly.

Of course if I manage to score an interview to one of the more easterly schools I am applying to I may have to buy a new suit. :( I don't have any Rhyme approved colors.

I think I will wear formals with tie but no suit. In Singapore anyone hardly wears suits in the humid weather.
