I am currently taking Veritas Prep right now and I scored a 480 on a practice test w/o preparation prior to taking the course. The other people in my class seem to all have either masters degrees in Comp Sci, Engineering, etc. or came from top notch schools. I, on the other hand, do not have strong fundamentals and came from an okay school plus have difficulty keeping up in class relative to others. It would have helped if others in class were somewhat average like me. Obviously, I shouldn’t care what the other people think in class, but there abilities far exceed mine. Any advice on how I should handle this since I am on a different wavelength it seems? I just want to get to the 550 to 600 range, which I feel is a goal that is reachable.

550-600 is definitely reachable by you. However, the Veritas program, and more specifically, the class that you are in may not be best suited for your goal. Most of these programs are geared towards people who want 700+
My suggestion is that you do one of the following:
1)Study on your own and get down the basics before continuing with the Veritas program
2)Ask if you can change classes where your classmates have lower diagnostic scores. This might not be as helpful if the instructor just plows through the material and doesn't much care for student feedback.
3)Eschew the entire program altogether and try a Princeton Review course, which is more basic.
OR
4)If at all possible, study on your own at your own pace.
