Hi sunnybhasin,

While the IR section has been around for a while, a number of business schools are still figuring out how to factor it into admissions decisions. You can read more about that here: https://poetsandquants.com/2014/10/09/b- ... r-section/

That being said, if you're feeling uneasy about your standing, feel free to reach out to an admissions offer at the school(s) you're interested in. They'll be able to give you insight about your entire profile - remember, the GMAT is an important piece of your background, but not the ONLY piece that will speak to your qualifications. Even if you're told you should retake the exam, at least you'll have heard it from an admissions rep directly.

Best,
Rich

Hi sunnybhasin,

A 680/Q49 is an fantastic score (it's just shy of the 90th percentile overall), so you can apply to any Business School that you choose. Since many Business Schools have publicly stated that they don't use the IR score as part of the application process, you have nothing to worry about there. With the 4.0 on the AWA, you don't have a problem there either.

HI All

I have scored 680 in GMAT(Q 49 and V 34).
But i have got 4 in AWA and 3 in IR.
As my IR score is low,do you think it would be better to regive GMAT?
I am aiming for colleges like NUS,INSEAD and NANYANG Singapore.

Thanks
Sunny

Hey Sunny

Generally speaking, you want to score decent enough on the IR section so as not to draw negative attention to a low IR score.

You don't want the admissions committee to focus on a really low IR score of like 1 or 2 -- that shows lack of effort or ability

That said, it's not that much more beneficial to have a perfect 8 versus a 6 or 7.

So ideally, you want to stay in the 4, 5, 6, or 7 range to efficiently get a score that is decent without putting a crazy amount of effort.

Now, with your IR score of 3 -- well, that's kind of cutting it. However, your 680 score is high enough that it'll offset the IR score of 3. So in your situation, I wouldn't worry about it.
