Does not answering questions in time for the IR have the same impact as it does for the q and v?that is does your score drop if you fail to even guess some questions?

Hey Panavee,
The score does drop and the penalty would be at least as bad as getting all the questions wrong.
You should not try such adventurous things as leaving the questions un-attempted on the GMAT.

Many Test Takers find the IR section challenging to complete in the 30 minutes allowed, so you're not alone. Thankfully, many Business Schools have publicly stated that they do not use an applicant's IR score as part of the application review process, so you would likely have nothing to worry about regarding your IR score.

What type of specific 'issue' are you facing when dealing with IR?

thank you very much for the replies.I took the GMAT for the second and final time for the next 2-3 years.

I scored a 3 on IR and was just wonndering if getting only to question number 7 had anything to do with it lol :D:D

Hi Panavee,

Yes, not finishing that section would have led to a penalty to your IR score. At this point though, it doesn't really matter (and there's nothing that you can do about it anyway). With a 690/Q44, you have a fantastic score (it's a bit shy of the 90th percentile overall), so you should apply to any Schools that interest you (and the IR3 will not matter).

Your score is perfectly fine and the schools have stated that they do not consider IR as of now. So go ahead and apply to the schools you like.

Leaving questions on IR will almost certainly have  no  (additional) negative impact on your score. You don't get those points, and that's where it ends. The GMAT does not penalize you any further. IR is not like quant/verbal in that sense.

Well sort of.I think i will probably have to retake it some time in the future because I don't think i will be accepted at an MBA program with only 3 years WE(I am applying for a MSc now) and i certainly will not have repaid my MSc tuition fees AND gathered money for an MBA.

That's right - it's about getting credit for a question. If you get wrong or don't finish a question - it's the same effect. You only get credit for question if all portions are answered correctly before the clock ends - there is no partial credit.
