Hi gmarkt,

First off, a 710/Q48 is an outstanding Score, so you can comfortably apply to any Business Schools that interest you. Many Business Schools have publicly stated that they do not use an applicant's IR score when evaluating an application, so you likely have nothing to be concerned about. However, if you're interested in what a specific School/Program thinks about the IR score, then you should research that School directly (you might also consider contacting the School to ask). This is all meant to say that a retest is probably not necessary. Since you are interested in applying to some highly-competitive Schools, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement (and the more time that you have to act on that advice, the better). There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

Hi all! Just took my GMAT today and scored a 710 (Q48/V40). Still waiting on AWA obviously, but what concerned me was I got a 5 in IR. That caught me totally off-guard as on my past couple of practice GMATs, I'd consistently score 7-8s - Think it was just test day jitters...

Wanted to see what the consensus was on how much my IR score (47th percentile) mattered if I plan on applying to T20 schools (namely UCLA and USC, though I just saw USC's new average is 736 :') ). Debating on retaking but don't want to fork over the exam fee if it'll only marginally increase my chances, if at all. Any advice is appreciated :)
Hi gmarkt,

Congratulations on the 710. I don't think that you should be concerned about your IR score.

All the best!

Hi gmarkt,

Unless you think you can retake to improve your overall GMAT score, I would not worry about retaking because of your IR score. Good luck with things moving forward.
