Hi gmatClub! I'm a recent graduate looking to apply to an MBA program in a few years. I decided to take the GMAT now because I was considering pursuing a 1 year postgraduate degree program before entering the workforce and I figured I would have an easier time studying now than when I've been out of school for a few years. I've now decided to just wait and apply to an MBA in a few years.
I have a lower GPA (3.2) from an engineering double major (top 25) school.
I took the GMAT a couple days ago and received Q47 (67th percentile) and V42 (96th percentile). In your opinion should I retake it to try and get a more balanced score? Is my current score high enough to have a good shot at MBA programs ranked between 5 and 15?

Hi there,
730 is a great score - well done. However I'm concerned about the quant score 67th percentile for any top schools. You will definitely get into some great schools with this score but for the top 10, your percentiles in the quant section should be aiming for 75th and above, particularly if your gpa is on the lower side. Since you won't be applying for a couple years, why not write it again? You've got the time and it will definitely increase your chances if you aim higher (your verbal is totally fine!).
I'm sure you know but it's also not just about the gmat and academics. All top schools are looking for leadership potential through your previous work experience plus will also look at your extra curriculars and what you do outside of work. They will look at everything you've done, companies you've worked at, career progression, nationality, how they think you will contribute and/or make an impact, and much more. Lots to look at so if some of these areas are lacking and you aren't applying for a couple years, now is the time to strengthen some of the weaker areas.

730 is a really strong score so you have options here. I would say given your low quant score and how much time you have prior to when you will actually apply I would give it another try and see if you can double down and improve your quant score. I would try and knock it out over the next month or so while the content is still fresh. You certainly can compete now with that 730 but to avoid any lingering doubts stemming from your low GPA I would retake
