Let's translate the question
Question: Does a lie to the right of b in the number line ?
Statement 1
\(a^2 - b = 0\)
\(a^2 = b\)
We know \(a^2\) is non negative, so b is non negative
If a > 1 or a < 0; then a < b
If 0<a<1; then a > b
Hence this statement is not sufficient to answer the question "Does a lie to the right of b in the number line ?"
Eliminate A D
Statement 2
This statement is fairly straightfoward to eliminate. We know that the sum of a and b add upto 6, however we don't know their individual position related to each other.
Eliminate B
Combination
a^2 + a = 6
a(a+1) = 6
a = -3; b = 9
a = 2; b = 4
In both cases b > a
Option C
