Is Admission to Kellogg EMBA Jan-Start Easier than Sep-Start?
Should you strategize about when to submit your application to an EMBA program? Absolutely! Timing can have a positive or adverse impact on outcomes. For Kellogg’s EMBA program, many candidates should consider whether the January-start program might be a better pool for them to apply within than the September-start pool.
Why does January-start versus September-start matter? It is all about demand. Greater numbers of applicants target the September-start program because the admissions cycle and start-date align more closely with the cycles and start-dates of other top EMBA programs. Therefore, if an applicant wants to apply to more than one EMBA program, this alignment may be attractive.
In general, also, most people think of beginning academic programs in the fall, not in January, so the September-start program has this advantage as it draws the attention of prospective students.
The larger demand for the September-start program means there is greater competition, which, in turn, can make it harder to gain admission. Therefore, applying in the January-start pool can be particularly advantageous for candidates who are a part of “over-represented profile pools” such as Indian foreign national men and East Asian foreign national men. It can also be advantageous if a candidate is part of some other ultra-competitive pool or has some flaw in their record. In those instances, the smaller amount of competition for admission can often confer solid benefits when it comes to admissions odds.
