Many students (I have talked to around 10-12 recent test takers myself) are of the opinion that the average difficulty level of the Classic Edition of the exam has risen exponentially. Thereby, the average score of the candidates have fallen quite significantly. On the flip side, the questions people are getting on Focused edition are of lower difficulty.
Is this true? Have you heard the same?
This is a very important and expensive exam with limited attempts. If these rumors are true, all of us need to shift to Focused Edition right away.

Any given GMAT can seem easier or harder to a particular test-taker depending on how the questions on the test match up with the test-taker's strengths and weaknesses. Also, because of the luck or the draw, a given GMAT may or may not have a significant number of questions that are relatively wordy or otherwise seem particularly difficult. So, it can seem that the classic GMAT is getting harder if you hear from people who have had a hard time with the test.
However, the truth is that, overall, scores on the classic GMAT have on average been increasing, rather than decreasing. So, while the questions on the test may have evolved some and some questions may be wordy or seem difficult, the difficulty of the classic GMAT has remained about the same.

I wrote the GMAT recently and had very similar experience. From scores of 760 in mock and 670 in real exam with extremely different difficulty level of questions the ones in real gmat were intensely tough. I too am deliberating which way to go.
