If the school accepts the GRE as substitute for the GMAT then it's OK, and they usually declare that they don't prefer candidates who took the GMAT over those who took the GRE. The problem is they don't publish average GRE scores of student in the class profile, but I think you can find a calculator that converts GRE scores to GMAT scores on the GRE website.

The thing about GRE is that the math section is pretty much a joke, while the verbal one is INSANELY difficult and some people believe adcom committee don`t trust GRE as much as GMAT.
