Solution

To find:
    • Whether the integer x is divisible by 3 or not

Analysing Statement 1
    • As per the information given in statement 1, when x is divided by 5 the remainder is 1
o From this statement, we can say different possible values of x can be 6, 11, 16, 21 etc
o Values like 6 and 21 are divisible by 3, whereas values like 11 and 16 are not divisible by 3
Hence, statement 1 is not sufficient to answer

Analysing Statement 2
    • As per the information given in statement 2, when x is divided by 15 the remainder is 1
o As the number 15 itself is a multiple of 3, the remainder will be same when x is divided by either 15 or 3
o Therefore, we can say the integer x is not divisible by 3
Hence, statement 2 is sufficient to answer

Hence, the correct answer is option B.

Answer: B
