TL;DR: Yes it is (no surprises 😊)!
We have answered this question by taking a look at both quantifiable as well as non-quantifiable aspects.
Quantifiable analysis: We made very rudimentary calculations to understand the difference between the earning potential of a candidate with/without an MBA from ISB. Following are the data points that we considered for the analysis.
1. Fees: ₹ 45.5L
2. Loan interest: 8% (current rate is ~8.8%)
3. Average pre-ISB salary: ~₹ 13.4L; Average post MBA salary of an ISB grad: ~₹ 34.5L (we rounded off the official statistics); Growth rate of both salaries: 12%
4. Loan taken: entire fee amount (conservative scenario); Loan tenure: 8 years since the first payment (beneficial for IT deduction under 80E)
Plugging these numbers into our model, we found that an ISB MBA graduate would have generated an additional value of over
₹ 1.8Cr. over a period of 10 years. See attached the snapshot for our calculations.
We have calculated the rough breakeven point as well (i.e. at what pre-MBA salary does targeting ISB MBA becomes financially not lucrative). Pre-MBA salary of around ₹ 22.4L is where the gap closes down. In this case, after year 10 is when the applicants start generating additional money. For such applicants, they should consider looking beyond the quantifiable aspect. Also, it is better if they have reasonable confidence in landing a post-MBA role with above-average compensation.
We have not considered the impact of scholarships on this model as this is not a common use case. You can reach out to us via email (

Non-quantifiable analysis: It is difficult to put a price on the following points as they are very much intangible and therefore are subjective in nature.
1.
Network: Being a part of the ISB family means one would get access to a very tight-knit and active professional network of over 13,500 alumni, spread across 60+ countries
2.
Knowledge gain: One would get a chance to bridge the required technical gaps through a plethora of courses, offered by some of the best faculty in the world
3.
Career trajectory: Through an MBA from ISB, one could drive the career in the direction that one would want to – in terms of geography, sector or function
4. Given the diversity of the cohort, there is a high chance your
thought process on multiple dimensions would evolve – be it on career or personal life; One-year ISB experience will enable you to sharpen interpersonal skills like time management and priorities alignment
5.
Credibility: The on-paper credibility would only increase if graduated from one of the best B-schools in India
6.
Break from the corporate world: One year at ISB gives you a chance to take a short break from the corporate world and helps you bounce back with a fresher and more rigorous perspective
7. Finally, the
FUN! Yes, the one year at ISB will be packed with lots of fun-filled memories that one would cherish for the rest of the life!
To paint the full picture, we decided to also take a look at the other side - the sacrifices one would have to make for this experience.
1. ISB experience is so
fast-paced (especially pre-placements) that it can become slightly daunting at times. In that case, we suggest you rely on your support line. It can be your peers or your family. You can also seek help from the school
2. If you are staying away from the family for the first time, it might take some
time to settle down. Occasionally, you might miss your loved ones. Students usually visit their close ones during the term breaks
Overall, we firmly believe the ISB experience is truly transformational, one that is definitely worth the amount shelled out to gain that experience.
