Is it correct usage

"The placement of the unusual artwok in the mansion's various room was impressive."

As per my understanding we can not use possesive (apostrophe s) with non living things..

I think this sentence is right( various rooms, not various room ).
where did you read "can not use possesive (apostrophe s) with non living things"?
