Is it possible to get a 42 in verbal with only 4 wrong?

Is it possible to get a 42 in verbal with only 4 wrong? [#permalink] New post   13 Jul 2016, 18:21
I just took the last of 6 available gmat prep CATs (exam pack 2), and ended up getting a 50/42 (760) overall. I ended up getting 4 verbal questions wrong (2 CR, 1 reading comp, 1 SC)

However, in a previous CAT, I've gotten 6 questions wrong on verbal and got a 45 on the section.

Is this disparity even possible?

It is an adaptive algorithm with 30% experimental questions. It is possible to get the same score with a variety of right/wrong combinations or vice verse.

The score only depends on the number of hard questions you get right. Not the number of total questions you get wrong.

How about easy questions bb? I have heard no. of wrong easy questions contribute more to the downfall than the number of hard correct question to the improvement. Is that true?

Well... it is all related but the more precise measure is how many hard questions you get right since you can't get to the Hard questions without answering correctly a bunch of easy ones.

Hey riceman89,

We can't comment for other tests but do note that no test prep company's algorithm will exactly match the real thing. The best we can do is get close.

In terms of our scoring, many of our students report scores that are +/- 30 points from their actual GMAT test and so are a relatively good indicator of their performance. That said, no practice test can perfectly replicate the actual score algorithm, but this is quite close.
