Hi all,
I get accepted from MSc Finance and Economics at LSE. I plan to work as analyst after I get master's degree. My goal is to become a fund (or risk) manager in the future.

Yesterday, I talked to a student who took the LSE's program before. He does not like the program at all. He said that the program was not practical at all. The program was good for students who want to continue their Ph.D in Finance (or Economics).

Do you guys have any idea about LSE's MSc in Finance and Economics program? Can anybody tell me about your experience there? How's the courses?

Hi

I graduated from LSE with a MSc Economics degree last year. The program's at LSE are highly theoretical, and as rightly pointed out by the student there, aimed for a career in academia. I would strongly suggest that you take an informed decision regarding LSE's offer.

Are you guys refering that getting into Industry post LSE course is not common ?

so what did you do ultimately? I mean did you accept LSE's offer or not?

I have received an offer for the Msc in Finance at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). However, I am thinking of changing to another program; Msc in Finance and Economics 


The reasoning behind my decision is as follows; I am willing to pursue an academic career, thus will be applying for the MRes/Phd in Finance offered by LSE upon completion of my taught masters degree. Therefore, the Msc in Finance and Economics will better suit my career goals. In addition, the program will enable me to complete the MRes/Phd program in 4 rather than 5 years. 




If you could help me by answering the following questions, I would be forever grateful 
1. Is this a wise decision ? 
2. Can I easily transfer from one program to another?
3. When should I transfer to the other program, before or during the Michaelmas term  ?
4. Is the Msc Finance and Economics program more challenging ?
5. Will I be able to catch up with the quantitative module of the course given that I come from a business/management background ( with courses in both Econ and Finance)

Hi ahmedhamer,
Congratulations on your admit.
If you want to pursue a career in academia, the MFE would be a good bet. LSE's MFin course is more suited for a career in IB and Private Equity.
The question here is not that which program is more challenging - This would depend upon your prior academic/work background. Would suggest you to go through both the curriculum thoroughly -will give you an idea which one you are more Comfortable with, lastly if you are very sure of transferring your program then talk to their admin before the starting school.
