Is the knowledge of trignometry helpful in solving very difficult Q's on GMAT?
I came across a quote on GMATCLUB stating...."though trigonometry was not in the GMAT curriculum, and was surprised to get a question which was super easy if you knew what sin 60 was and how to use it, and almost impossible to solve without that knowledge. "
The GMAT curriculum does include memorizing the ratios of 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 triangles. These ratios are the same information as contained in basic trig conversions such as sin 30, sin 60, sin 45. So while that person was correct that some problems go very quickly if you know sin 60, those problems go just as quickly if you have the proportions of these key right triangles memorized and you recognize when they are in use.
