Re: Is the value of n closer to 50 than 75? 1. 75-n > n-50 2. [#permalink]

Hi tejal,

wats the OA? bcoz my reasoning is as follows. IMO E is the right answer.

Stmt 1: Since it is not mentioned tat n is an integer, n can be 62.5 and in tat case n is equidistant from both 50 an d75. So "is n closer to 50 or 75 " cant be answered in such scenerio. Data insufficient

Stmt 2: if n = 61 its close to 50; if n = 65 its close to 75. hence data insufficient

Combining 1 &2 n =62.5 (n>60) is still equidistant from 50 & 75. hence cant be answered.

Pls correct me if iam wrong :-)

The Q is "Is the value of n closer to 50 than 75?" and only requires a Y/N answer. if you answer no all the time (in the case of 62.5) then it's still suff.

**However - please note - St1 75-n > n-50 - so n cannot be 62.5 because that would mean 75-n = n-50. So A is suff.

thanks salisaa....

I guess i made the mistake of replacing inequality with equal to.

Stmt 1: 75-n > n-50
=> n<62.5; ie., n can be 62.4 but not 62.5 (anything less than 62.5)
=> thus n is closer to 50 than 75.

thus A is Sufficient

Is the value of n closer to 50 than 75?
1. 75-n > n-50
2. n > 60

average of 50 and 75 is 125/2 = 62.5

question is is n = >0 ie: -2n+125>0 ie: 125>2n thus n>62.5.........suff

from 2

n>60 obviously not suff

A
