I just always seem to throw the strategies that I trained for out the window in the test center
Hi CML33.

The problem you describe is a pretty common one, and you can certainly solve it.

You're already doing pretty well in Verbal. Now, you just need to increase your Quant score to get to 700+.

You can certainly do so. There's no mystery regarding what you need to do. You can get to 700+ or 750+ by simply preparing thoroughly.

You need to spend time learning concepts and strategies, and then you have to practice until you get to a point such that you're getting questions correct consistently, one way or another.

If you can get 80% of the Quant and 85% of the Verbal practice questions you see correct consistently, for practice set after practice set, you'll score 700+ on test day.

You can get from the following post some ideas that you can use to maximize the results of your practice.

The Best GMAT Practice Methods

Hi CML33,

I'm sorry to hear that this recent attempt did not turn out better. The similarities in your last 3 Official results (which go back almost 6 months in total) show that you essentially performed in the same ways on all 3 of those attempts - and the slight variations in your Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores are likely the results of a few lucky/unlucky guesses and a handful of little mistakes (that you either made or did not make on individual sections). If you're going to stick with your current next Test Date (in just a few weeks), then it's likely that you will score at this same general level again (in the low-600s).

The larger concern is that GMAC currently puts a 5-attempts-in-12-months limit on each GMATer. Since you have just taken your 4th attempt - and your first attempt was last October - if you are unhappy with this next Official Score, then you will have to wait more than 5 MONTHS before you will be allowed to attempt the GMAT for a 6th time. This is meant to say that you really should consider pushing back your next Official Test Date.

When we last discussed your studies, you noted that your Score Goal was 700. Even if that's not your exact Goal right now, if you're looking to score signficantly higher than a 640, then you will almost certainly need more than just another 3 weeks of study time to define (and fix) the various 'bad habits' that are keeping you from scoring higher at this point.

We never had the chance to properly review your prior ESR (and if you have the ESR for this attempt, then we can analyze that as well). If you'd prefer not to post that information online, then you can feel free to email me directly (at [email protected]).

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
