I noticed that while using the GMATprep software I could use the practice screen to type out the first paragraph of my essay and then just copy it and keep it on the clipboard. The first paragraph is a generalization I have developed, a standard template which I use across all my essays. I could then just paste the same on the essay prompt and save 3-5 mins of actually typing.
What i want to know is whether this would be possible on the real GMAT and is it allowable to do so?Dear
jaykarnik,
I'm happy to respond.
Honestly, I don't know whether this would be allowed, but I must say, I would caution against it. Even if there is a 0.1% chance that the computer would consider this "cheating" in one way or another, it seems to me an awfully large risk to take for a mild convenience. Remember if they computer decides for any reason that what you are doing is not legitimate, then you are booted out, you loose your $$, your infraction appears on score reports I believe, and you are banned from the GMAT for a while. A lot to risk for a small time-saving trick.
I will also say I find myself a bit skeptical about any intro paragraph of a "one size fits all" variety. All good writing is contextual and specific. The sooner you home in on the specific theme of the prompt, the better off you will be.
Does all this make sense?
