Is it possible to raise a 440 to at least a 550-600 within five weeks of tiem frame?

Certainly, just work on your mistakes from past experience.
I have a friend who scored 590 in first attemp in Nov 2005 & 780 in second attemp just in last week of Dec 2005.

All the very best, don't give up!

If I hold a full-time job as well...and I can't study for 24/7...is it possible to still raise my score?

As you are tied by timings, you will need solid strategy. The rule of the game is to - "reduce your mistakes". I is not enough to do abundant problems. You need to see "how many" mistakes you "found-and-corrected" in a study session. If you find a mistake - go deep into it; try many similar problems and make sure you don't repeat it. For me, "learning from mistakes and correcting so as not to repeat them" is the key.

And yes, your score target can be reached withing the time you have IMO.

duttsit, andy,

He is a 'bond' :-D

I was requesting him to write on this forum but he was reluctant as he has never visited any forums (so, I didn't force him too much). He is already an MBA.

Well, few tips he gave are,

1) GMAT is more of strategies, so develop strategies.
2) Eliminate each choice with appropriate reason 'that convinces you'.
3) BE CALM!

On asking why 590 in first attempt & how come massive jump to 780 in one month!

His reply was,

He was over confident about preparation in first attempt but when test started he got nervous! He found himself very much disturbed. He could complete Quant but not verbal. He stressed more on he was not at all
calm & cool. Moreover, no practice test!!!
For second attempt, he took 3 weeks off just before the test & total preparation of 6 weeks. Did only verbal as he was confident about quant. Verbal for him was easy (it seems) so he worked only on solving in time & with COOL HEAD. Took 3 to 4 practice tests just to check his level. When he went for the test he was feeling 'empowered' ;) He finished quant almost 5 mins before & Verbal too well before time ends.

I think it also depends from person to person but defintitely should be inspiring for us! Actually, I liked the the way he said, "I was really feeling empowered".

duttsit,
I haven't yet registered for the GMAT but want to write it before mid Feb, I have few business trips with destination planned but dates hanging, so just waiting for dates to get fixed!

Cheers guys!

I have considered taking a course, but I dont know if i should. I have previously taken a Kaplan course for the LSAT and I did not find it very effective especially for the price that I had to pay. Most of my friends who are in professional schools or grad schools told me that it's best to just do self-studied as well.

Should I considered a tutor? Is it worth it? Has anyone done it before?
