Statement 1: $$x<x^2$$. x could be negative or positive . both cases , this statement is true. NOT sufficient.

Statement 2: $$x^2 < x^3$$. $$x^2$$ is positive . thus $$x^3$$ has to be positive. Thus, x is positive. Sufficient.
