Even if the 2 statments provide 2 different answers to the original question. (Yes then No)
Stat 1
|3x -9| + |5x - 25| = 16 - 2x
o If x =< 3 then
|3x -9| + |5x - 25| = 16 - 2x
<=> -(3*x-9) -(5*x - 25) = 16 - 2*x
<=> 6*x = 34-16 = 18
<=> x = 3 >>>> Solution OK.
o If 3 < x =< 5 then
|3x -9| + |5x - 25| = 16 - 2x
<=> (3*x-9) -(5*x - 25) = 16 - 2*x
<=> -2*x + 16 = 16 - 2*x
<=> 16 = 16 >>>> All x between 3 (excluded) and 5 (included) are solutions.
o If x > 5 then
|3x -9| + |5x - 25| = 16 - 2x
<=> (3*x-9) + (5*x - 25) = 16 - 2*x
<=> 10*x = 16 + 34 = 50
<=> x = 5 >>>> Solution out because x > 5.
The solutions are between 3 and 5 insclusive.
SUFF.
Stat 2
3|2x - 7| < 1
o If x < 7/2 then
-3*(2*x - 7) < 1
<=> -6*x + 21 < 1
<=> 6*x > 20
<=> x > 20/6 = 10/3 >>>>> Solutions are such that 3 < 10/3 < x < 7/2 < 5
o If x >= 7/2 then
3*(2*x - 7) < 1
<=> 6*x - 21 < 1
<=> 6*x < 22
<=> x < 22/6 = 11/3 >>>>> Solutions are such that 3 < 7/2 =< x < 11/3 < 5
Finally, we have 10/3 < x < 11/3 and the solutions are between 3 and 5 exclusive.
