Is x > y?

(1) x + y < 0. The sum of two numbers is greater than 0. This is no sufficient to say which of those numbers is larger. Not sufficient.

(2) x - y > 0. Re-arrange: x > y. Directly answers the question. Sufficient.

Answer: B.

This might be a trivial question but can you rearrange if we don't know the sign of either variable??

Hi experts,

For the (1) option, can we say that x < -y ? Hence x is not > than y, no? Then the answer should be D?

It can be y < -x too, so statement 1 should be insufficient.
