Good question to test one basic inequality concept that if you have to remove a minus sign from the equation, multiply both sides with -1 and change the inequality sign.

Question is, Is –x – y > –u – v ?. We can say -(x+y) > -(u+v) or x+y < u+v. So we have to test any one of these conditions.

Statement 1: x<u, y<v. Add both equation and we directly get x+y < u+v as required. Sufficient.

Statement 2: x = 3, y = 4, u = 7, v = 9. Put these in the equation given in question and it satisfies the condition. Sufficient.

Option D is the correct answer.
