B

st. A is insufficient. Assign x 0 and a positive value and check in both the cases
st. B is a way of stating that a number should be positive and the other, negative.

per st. B, x can be positive or negative and note that when x assumes a positive value (with y negative), the result is clear. To make sure that x always assumes a positive value, st. A is required
