\(x-y<1\)
If \(x-y =0.5\) then \(x>y\) ...(i)
If \(x-y = -1\) then \(x< y \)...(ii)
\(y-z < 1 \)
If \(y-z =0.5\) then \(y>z\)...(iii)
If \(y-z =-1\) then \(y < z\) ...(iv)
If the conditions are according to (ii) and (iv) we can answer YES to the stem.
If the conditions are according to (i) and (iii) we can answer NO to the stem.
INSUFF.
(2) x + 2 < y + 1 < z
\(x-y <-1\) so \(x < y \)
\(y-z <-1\) so \(y< z \)
Therefore \(x < y < z\)
SUFF.
