Answer will be NO, when x and y have opposite signs. Otherwise, it is YES.

(1) y = x + 1

x is integer, so x and y are consecutive integers as y=x+1.
Consecutive integers can never have opposite sign of - and +.
It will be -*- or -*0 or 0*+ or +*+. In each case, answer is YES.

I think in statement 1 you meant x is between 0 and -1. If x is between 0 and 1, then for x=\(\frac{1}{2}\), y will be \(\frac{3}{2}\).
