stmt1: Not Suff
stmt2: x^2 + y^2 = 1

x and y are either 0 and 1(viceversa) or fractions < 1 - Suff

Stmt 1 : suff
Assume x = -2, y = 3, xy < 1
else assume x= 0, y = 1, xy <1
else fraction xy will be less than 1

Stmt 2 : suff
