Dear mbazeus,

Your profile actually stands out quite well for someone with 2.5 years of experience. The mix of CS + investment-bank tech + AI advocacy + tech community building already pushes you outside the generic coder bracket (read IT Engineer pool). Internal trust signals like the Leader’s Choice Award, innovation award, hackathon win and mentoring responsibilities show solid upward momentum. A GRE (327+) will also neutralize any academic concerns and place you well on the quantitative side.

Since you are on the lower end of work experience, ISB will look for leadership stories that show influence rather than seniority. You will need to explicitly bring forward leadership stories from both work and personal life such as moments where you influenced people, owned something end-to-end or showed initiative without waiting for authority. You can shape this through two angles:
  1. Mentorship: not just “I mentored juniors,” but how you guided them through real challenges, earned trust and improved team output.
  2. AI Champion role : not the title, but how you convinced teams to adopt new ideas, handled resistance and moved people from hesitation to action.
Stories built this way show maturity, judgment and people leadership something which ISB wants to see from younger applicants.

Round 3 is competitive for tech profiles, so sharp storytelling becomes critical. Overall you’re a strong fit, but the way you present the leadership narrative will drive the final outcome.
I am an ISB Alum,CO15, and have been mentoring applicants crack ISB and other Global MBA programs for 8+ years now. Feel free to get in touch if you seek professional assistance.

Cheers and wish you all the very best !

Hello!

Here is our detailed profile analysis for you:

Academics:
Your academic background is solid: VJTI is a strong brand, and an 8.23 CGPA keeps you comfortably above the threshold ISB expects. Your academic profile will not hold you back.

Work Experience (2.5 years):
Top investment bank + early-career trajectory + upcoming promotion (even if it’s post-admission cycle) is a positive signal. Your organizational awards, hackathon win, and recognition for innovation make your work profile stronger than a typical applicant with similar experience.

Research & Certifications:
The IEEE paper is an additional credibility boost. Certifications won’t differentiate you by themselves, but they show intentional skill-building.

Leadership & Extracurriculars:
Managing a 1,000+ member tech community in college, mentoring juniors, being an AI Champion, and volunteering through CSR activities together demonstrate leadership, initiative, and well-roundedness. These are good positives for ISB.

Overall, this is a good, competitive, above-average profile for ISB — provided the test score and essays come together well.

R2 vs R3 – Honest Outlook from us
If possible, Round 2 will materially improve your chances. I myself cramped up INSEAD, LBS, LSE and ESSEC all in 4 days and managed to get in. I feel for you it's a very similar situation - trust me R2 vs R3 make a huge difference for the schools and earlier the better is a strong rule for this period.
Your profile is absolutely strong enough to be considered in R3. It’s just that R2 gives you a statistically better chance.

Hi mbazeus,

Yes, PGP is possible in R3. For now, please focus on achieving that target score; since you are yet to take the GRE and have not worked on the essays as well, R3 would be most suited. The next two months should be used well to put your best foot forward.

Ultimately, the best time to apply is always when you are fully prepared and your application, test scores, and story are all aligned.

Happy to help conduct a detailed profile evaluation and to conduct a proper strategy session; please drop an inquiry on:

Dear mbazeus,

One glance through your profile tells us that your academic performance has been about average, with one particular spike being the IEEE publication. However, the clear highlight in your profile is your work experience, where you seem to have demonstrated exceptional performance, as seen through the recognitions you have received and the instances of mentoring.

On the extra curricular front, we believe your contributions as the community leader of a software technology, if this aligns with your passions, can potentially translate into a strong story of initiative and ownership.

We do sense good potential in your profile, but it will need to be supported with a strong GRE score to make it holistically competitive and to improve your chances of securing an interview shortlist. At present, if you have not taken the GRE, we believe preparing for a desired score while also working on the application may be too much to manage along with a full time job, especially since the Round 2 deadline is quite near and your bandwidth after work may be limited.

Our recommendation is to focus wholeheartedly on getting a strong GRE score and then work on the application with the space and clarity needed, and submit it in the Round 3 admissions cycle. Please remember that your chances do not change drastically if you apply in Round 3 instead of Round 2, but you will be able to give your application the attention it deserves and put your best foot forward.

We would love to connect and understand your profile better so that we can offer more personalised guidance.
