I got an admit to the ISB PgpPro class of 2022. Have 6 years of experience and love my job.

However, I feel I am getting stagnated in terms of responsibilities and salary band. Would like to use an MBA experience to give these a boost.

Any guidance on whether I should continue with PgpPro class this year Or should I apply for Pgp Program next year?
( I don't have a GMAT score yet, but I have about medium confidence that I will be able to crack the PGP program next year. )

What apprehensions I have with PGPPro?
Given that there is no career and placement service for PGPPro, I fear that future organizations post-PgPro will only give me a market standard percentage increment over what I am drawing today and not reset my band.

Why I am tempted by the PGP program?
I believe - the career and placement services will help me land a more senior role in some organizations. also that these organizations will be coming to ISB at a particular salary band.
So, on placement I will be able to reset my salary band.

ISB PGP is the more flagship program and if you want to give it a shot please do but take the opportunity cost into hand and if you were to give up the PGP-pro class what are you missing out on?

Again think of the competition and the application/essay process and if you want to go ahead then please do so

Thanks, I get what you are saying.

If I may, a follow-up - "future organizations post-PgPro will only give me a market standard percentage increment over what I am drawing today and not reset my band." Is this understanding correct?

I can't comment on that but my understanding is that with pgp you have placements and you can definetly target the best companies so you maybe able to get more salary and the connections you make definitely help in the future

I have fairly limited understanding of pgp pro and since it's for professionals with only 6 years PGP is better suited for you

Hi KNAG,

I am a PGP alum from the class of 2013 and also on the current L&D Advisory Council for PGPpro at ISB. For both the programs, have a long-term perspective in mind. Do not just look at the immediate salary you'd get after completion of these programs.

PGPpro doesn't have a placement process but there are immense networking opportunities with the industry leaders during the course that you can pitch for roles and in some cases, get that increment. With pro, the reset will happen over time. The course is more to help you develop the skills, have the ISB brand and the pro network through your career.

One would opt for pro in case you cannot go for a full-time course and yet wish to have quality post-graduate education. If you can invest a year, then I suggest you target PGP for 2022 intake + other one-year programs at IIMs as well.

Let me know in case you have questions.

Hi,

There are few points in your profile which can help evaluate your choices -
1) You have 6 years of work experience - This works in favor of one year full time courses at ISB or IIMs. You are not late for PGPpro. You can still try PGPpro after an year if full time program doesn't work out.
2) You feel stagnated in terms of responsibilities and salary bracket - Significant changes in responsibility and salary, with better probability, can take place in full time programs with placement support. The chances of getting these goals in PGPpro is little less than in PGP.
3) You have medium confidence to crack PGP this year - Medium confidence is the perfect start. Since your profile was selected for PGPpro, we assume that your profile is attractive enough. With an attractive profile and good essays, you can crack PGP and one year MBAs at IIMs with even GMAT of 670+.

Financial aspect is another dimension which drives these choices. So consider those and the above mentioned points to finalize what's best for you!
