Debrief of Interview Experience of some of our clients who interviewed at Kolkata over the weekend:
Applicant profile 1: Male - 4 years of Exp. In Construction industry who wants to move to Real Estate Sales & Marketing post MBA.
• Panel asked me to explain certain stats and figures I had mentioned in the Achievements section of my application.
• Asked details of a certain technology used for conducting land / soil surveys.
• Wanted to know my motivation for pursuing an MBA right now?
• Since my current employer is also active in Real Estate besides Construction, wanted to understand if I considered a switch to RE within the organization itself.
• Since I have Master’s degree as well, they asked me the thought process behind pursuing a MS right after undergrad.
Applicant profile 2: Male - 6 years of Exp. In PE/Investment Research who wants to move to Management Consulting post MBA.
• How did I manage time between helping a startup and core work responsibilities.
• They wanted to know why I haven’t taken any compensation from the startup for the time I have dedicated to it.
• Gave me a hypothetical scenario on similar lines as my Achievements example and wanted me to share how I will make an investment decision.
• Asked me to describe how I intend to add value to the cohort based on my professional experience and personal skillsets.
• Wanted to know WHY Consulting when I am already in a lucrative industry.
• Wanted to understand how else can I reach my career gaols w/o an MBA from ISB.
Applicant profile 3: Female – 5+ years of Exp. In Software Development/IT project Management who wants to move to Product Management post MBA.
• A lot of people aim to get into PM roles post ISB. How do I believe that I will be able to secure my dream job amidst this huge competition.
• As part of ECs, I had mentioned that I am actively involved with a Book Club. Wanted to know more about what I do there.
• Gave me a scenario of a potential conflict between Engineering team and Business team before launch of a new feature in an e-com platform. Asked me how as a PM I will resolve the conflict
• Checked about my alternate career goals and my approach to achieving it.
• Had mentioned that I want to be Head of BTC club. Wanted to know how I will convince my classmates to vote in my favor.
Overall, everyone seemed to be contend with the interview and felt that mock interviews helped them present themselves more confidently in front of the panel. Also, as anticipated, a lot of questions were exactly the same as we had discussed during the 2 mocks.
