When a modifier is an adverb, it modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. (In these examples, the modifiers are in bold)
He plays nicely.
Leave tomorrow.
Think carefully.
So in this question "influence greatly" will be correct plus "the" before country is correct.

AndrewN, I would love to hear your take on this question.
Hello, kntombat. My take is that the question is flawed, plain and simple. The article the should be present in the prepositional phrase of [the] coming century, so (A) or (D) are better in that regard, but such a split is absurd, to be honest. I have yet to see an official GMAT™ question that purposely omits the article from some answers in such a way. (For what purpose? To punish second-language learners of English?) As for the placement of greatly, it should clearly modify influence, not the nonsensical continue. (Will continue greatly? As opposed to diminutively?) I cannot argue against the correctness of (A), even if the split infinitive to greatly influence in (C) is perfectly acceptable as well. I would abandon this one, to be honest.

I am calling in another Expert who I believe I can count on to provide an honest opinion: IanStewart, your thoughts?

AndrewN Hi Andrew. Thank you for your explanation! So, should we consider this question to be flawed and ignore it?
The best answer choice seems to be option A but Official Answer is given as option D.

There was only one location where I found this question featured - CourseHero website. I am not able to attach the link here as I am still a newbie on this forum.

Query to the user who has posted this question: chillbrorelax Hi. Can you please share the explanation for the Official Answer?

Yes, I would move on from this question. (D) is not correct and would not appear as such as a correct answer on the GMAT™. I will always advise people to practice official questions for Verbal. Even well-meaning companies that do a pretty good job copying official questions still offer suboptimal preparation opportunities compared to GMAC™. In the question above, if you replace the -ly adverb with something like a lot to emphasize the degree to which something is done, you will expose the fatal flaw in (D). Between will continue to influence a lot (choice (A)) and will continue a lot to influence (choice (D)), I can think of zero cases in which the latter would be deemed acceptable in English, let alone preferable.

(D) is certainly wrong since "greatly" is modifying "influence", not "continue".

I prefer (C) over (A) since I would want to modify the verb beforehand.

A will continue to influence B.
A will continue to greatly influence B. (Correct)
A will continue to influence greatly B. (I won't say it is wrong but it doesn't flow that well because B doesn't follow "influence".)

Hi VeritasKarishma. Thank you for your reply! :)
Thanks for explaining why you prefer option C over A.
C looks to be the best option to me now. Like AndrewN mentioned earlier, if the GMAC were to frame this question, I seriously doubt whether they would have left out the article the in the prepositional phrase of [the] coming century.

Thanks for asking us to check this question for you, SibyMatthew!

Yes, we think this is a flawed question. When you look under the "Tags" for each question, try to focus on questions that have reliable-sounding sources. Questions labeled as "Source: Other - Please Specify" can be created by anyone, whether they are an expert or not. Many of those questions are either flawed, vague, or irrelevant. Hope that helps!

We've posted a lot of SC questions, so feel free to look for our name in the "Source" tags for more reliable questions!

Hi EMPOWERgmatVerbal. Thank you for your reply!
Thank you for this valuable tip regarding "tags" associated with questions and how to filter out questions from more reliable sources.
I will definitely keep this in mind. I will rely mainly on the official questions but will also make use of questions from reliable sources available on this forum which have been approved by the Experts like yourself. :)

Sure! I will definitely check out the questions posted by you and your team! Thanks again! :)
