Good Morning,

I am a law school graduate (I graduated in 2015, although I have not yet taken the bar), who is applying to GSU's (Georgia State University) Master of Finance Program for the fall of 2018. I want to go into the financial planning/the financial advisor route. How is GSU's program? What's the best way to go about applying for jobs? Should I mention that I have my JD (even though I havent taken the bar) on my applicaiton and interviews? Any feedback is appreciated.

Couple things. A JD and MSF open a number of career options. Financial planning, legal within a bank, compliance, etc. And of course, typical finance roles are also a possibility. Credit would be interesting as there is a lot of legal within that field. I personally review amendments, loan agreements, modifications, term sheets, etc. All incorporate aspects of legal understanding.

As for GSU's program, I think it has grown tremendously. I personally LOVE Atlanta and Buckhead, so the campus area is great. The university is right in the middle of the city, which makes it convenient for anyone working or living in Atlanta. They have worked hard to incorporate actual experienced professionals to help with finding jobs and to provide a real world environment. I'd consider it a really good program if you wanted to be in Atlanta or work down south.
