'which', in my experience, always works on the immediate noun BUT thats not what is required here it is the effect of all the nouns e.g culture of accodmation, and constraint, a system of forms etc which makes the congested society tolerable.
D.

can you elaborate? OA happens to be D but I just don't see how 'Japan's' in D can be correct. I myself picked B here.

Japan is a culture of accomodation, and constraint, a system of forms, etiquette, and images, making its ever-present congestion tolerable.

B) Japan, a culture of accomodation and constraint, is a system of forms, etiquette, and images, which makes its
D) Japan's is a culture of accomodation and constraint, a system of forms, etiquette, and images that makes the

again, do not agree with OA which I will post later. please explain your answer choice. thanks!

Guys, the problem in B is that Japan is not a culture, it's a country. It should be written as

Japan's culture, a culture of accomodation ....

Now, the perceived problem with E is the use of possessive Japan's. However, "Japan's" means"Japan's culture" here.

Japan's (culture) is a culture of ....

Anyways, it would have been challenging to judge the best answer from given 5 rather than 2. I wish all of us could take r019h to the test. He would reduce the answer choices from 5 to 2 and then we would take it from there ;)

for the same reason I chose D but when I see "that makes" i though both are not resonablw answers.

but two of them, chose D for the above reason.
