If 4 ounces are left over, he pours 172 - 4 = 168 ounces into each bottle.
Amount in each bottle = 168/8 = 21 ounces
% of the total he pours into each bottle = \(\frac{21}{172} * 100 = 12.2 \approx 12\)%

Amount left over = 4 ounces
Thus, amount poured = 172 - 4 = 168 ounces
Number of bottles = 8
=> Amount poured in each bottle = 168/8 = 21 ounces
Required percentage = [(Amount poured in 1 bottle)/(Total volume)] * 100 = 21/172 * 100 ~ 12%
Alternative approach: - The 'no-calculation' approach:
If nothing was left over, then each bottle would have had 1/8 th of the total volume
Thus, the required percentage would be 1/8 * 100 = 12.5% (a standard value)
Since we have some amount left over, the required percent would be less than 12.5%
Since the amount left over is only 4 ounces (while each bottle has more than 20 ounces), the reduction in percentage value would be very small.
Thus, the best option is 12% (not 8%; since it is too low)
