A. 40.5
B. 41.5
C. 42.5
D. 43.5
E. 44.5

We can calculate the weighted average:
[32(5) + 50(7)] / (5 + 7)

(160 + 350) / 12 = 510/12 = 42.5

Solution

Given
In this question, we are given that
    • Jim bought 5 kgs of rice costing Rs. 32 per kg and another 7 kgs of rice costing Rs. 50 per kg.

To find
We need to determine
    • The average cost price per kg of rice Jim bought.

Approach and Working out
Total price of first type of rice = 32 x 5 = 160
Total price of second type of rice = 50 x 7 = 350
    • Total price of all the rice bought = (160 + 350) = 510
    • Total amount of rice bought = 5 + 7 = 12 kg

Hence, the average cost price per kg of rice bought = 510/12 = 42.50

Thus, option C is the correct answer.

Correct Answer: Option C
