Let the fixed charge of Jim’s Taxi Service = 2.25 $
and charge per 2/5 mile(.4 mile) = .35$

Total charge for a trip of 3.6 miles = 2.25 + (3.6/.4) * .35
= 2.25 + 9*.35
= 5.4 $

[*]Fixed charges for Jim's Taxi service = $2.25
Traveller has to pay $0.35 for each 0.4 mile travelled
total travelled distance = 3.6 miles
\(\frac{3.6}{0.4}\) = 9 parts of 0.4 mile each

So total = 2.25 + 9 *0.35 = $ 5.40

Correct answer - E

Jim’s Taxi Service charges an initial fee of $2.25 at the beginning of a trip and an additional charge of $0.35 for each 2/5 of a mile traveled. What is the total charge for a trip of 3.6 miles?

A. $3.15
B. $4.45
C. $4.80
D. $5.05
E. $5.40

Fixed charges = $ 2.25

Additioinal Charges = 3.6/0.4 =9

So, Total charges = 2.25 + 9*0.35

Hence , total charges is $5.40 , answer will be (E)

Let’s find how many “⅖ miles” are in 3.6 miles. Since 3.6 = 36/10 = 18/5, has (18/5)/(2/5) = 90/10 = 9 “⅖” miles; thus, the total charge for 3.6 miles would be 2.25 + 9 x 0.35 = $5.40.

Answer: E
