Joan, Kylie, Lillian, and Miriam all celebrate their birthdays today. Joan is 2 years younger than Kylie, Kylie is 3 years older than Lillian, and Miriam is one year older than Joan. Which of the following could be the combined age of all four women today?
51
52
53
54
55
Here's how i have set the variables:
J = K - 2
K = L + 3
M = J + 1
Now if I assume Lilian is 10 years old
L = 10
K = 13
J = 11
M = 12
If we add the unit value comes to 6. I don't see it in the answer. Now I'm confused.
THanks

Translate in terms of Kylie = k
J = K-2
L = K-3
M = K-1
THUS THE FOUR AGES FORM A SET OF CONSECUTIVE INTIGERS WHOSE SUM IS 4K-6 = 2(2K -3)
THUS THE ANSWER IS EVEN...52 OR 54 ,SINCE 2K-3 ODD THUS DEVIDING THE ANSWER CHOICES BY 2 MUST GIVE AN ODD ANSWER
