Hi
cecilia1991,
I just wanted to build on what Leadership already has said.
Ideally, when you change jobs before applying to b-school, you want to be able to say two things in your application:
a. The change was done with the intention of being more employable immediately post-MBA, i.e. the new role is somewhat closer to your target role post-MBA.
b. During the recruiting process, you were open about your MBA plans with your new employer and they were okay with you staying in the company for a few months.
I understand in most cases, being open about your MBA plans with someone who is trying to hire you is risky. But sometimes, people are honest because (1) they want to avoid having an uncomfortable conversation with their new bosses in just a few months in case they get accepted to b-school, and (2) they don't want the AdComs to think that they have no loyalty to the new employer.
I understand your case is different though. You lost your job in the US because your work visa didn't get approved, so there was nothing you could have done. And obviously, you needed to find a job in China. But if you were able to somehow indicate in your application that your new role makes you more employable post-MBA and that you were open about your MBA plans with your new employer, this would definitely strengthen your story.
Of course, don't lie. If the above really doesn't apply to your case, perhaps, as Leadership suggested, it would be best to put on hold your applications while you focus on accomplishing as much as you can at your new company.
Also, as you mentioned, being unemployed maybe wasn't the sole reason for your Round 1 rejections. So feel free to post a profile evaluation in your target schools' forums. If you send me your resume, stats (e.g. GPA, GMAT score), target schools and career goals over email (

I hope this helps, and good luck!
Warm regards
Alex
