Statement 1:
(1) Joe rides his bike 5 kilometers to the bus station where he boards the bus to take him to the train station. He then takes the train 10 times the distance he has traveled by bus.
Joe home to Bus station = 5 kilometres
Bus station to train station = d kilometres.
Train station to Aunt home = (10*d) kilometres.
Total distance = 5+d+ 10d = 225
11d = 220
d = 20 kilometres
Hence, Sufficient
Statement 2:
(2) The distance Joe travels by bike is 1/4 the distance he travels by bus, and his train ride is 40 times longer than his bike ride.
distance by bike = (1/4)* distance by bus
distance by bus = 4* distance by bike
Distance by train = 40* bike
Total distance = distance by bike + distance by bus + distance by train
= bike + 4*bike + 40* bike
= 45 * bike
given that : 45* bike = 225 kilometres
bike = 5 kilometres.
Distance by bus = 4* bike = 4*5 = 20 kilometres.
Hence, Sufficient
