I think what business schools are looking for from someone like you (someone without a traditional "business" background) is a crystal clear career plan. If you can answer the question, "Why do you want an MBA?" with realistic and ambitious goals (and have both short term and long term goals) you will be a great candidate.
From what you've written, it's obvious that you have a great GPA and very interesting work experience in an industry that is underrepresented in b-schools (a very good thing). The other areas major areas of your candidacy would be (1) GMAT - work hard on this, a high score (particularly on the quant section) will show schools that despite working in an industry that does not require a ton of quantitative work, you will do well in quantitative classes (2) Community service - This is especially important if you're interested in top schools (3) Essays - You have plenty of time to work on these and make them great.
The fact that you are female may be a slight advantage as schools try to keep classes balanced and for whatever reason a lot more guys apply to b-school than girls.
Best of luck!
