Hi All,

I gave my Gmat today and scored 690 (q48 v36 IR 7), I need guidance for my next step, should i give another attempt and apply in the second round or should i apply in the first round with this score, I am targeting ISB and SP Jain.
My Background:
Engineering with 70% score
2.5 yrs+ job experience with Infosys and ZS associates.

Kindly help!

Hi neeleshpri ,

Congratulations on 690!!
With 690, Getting into ISB is a bit difficult unless you had a good overall profile. I would suggest you to give GMAT again targeting above 710+ (with Q50+).
SP Jain is easy to get in with this score.

Hi neeleshpri,

First off, a 690/Q48 is a fantastic Score, so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice School. As such, a retest might not be necessary. Since you know the specific Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

If you do choose to retest - and if you took your Official GMAT at a Test Center - then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Hi,
In the initial stage i was having problem with the timing in the verbal section because of which i usually end up skipping last 7-9 ques, Hence the score v31, In order to tackle that i used an approach in which i divided the whole section in 4 parts (9 ques each) and tried to complete each part in 16 min. This process really helped me in tackling time issue and i was able to complete the whole section in time (though skipped a few in between).
Hope this helps, let me know if you need any other info.

Hi Rajat,
Thanks a lot for the advice.
About SP Jain, i was going through various article and found out that the cut-off for their PGDM course is 75th percentile in quant section and mine is lower than that as it is Q48. Do i have a good chance still?
Thanks,

You'll be going head-to-head with numerous other engineering grads, many with scores over 700 and a fair amount of professional managerial experience. If you feel like there are other aspects of your profile that will truly stand out, you could go ahead and apply with the 690, else, it makes sense to retake the exam and apply in round 2.

Thanks, I shall try that . So u said you skip some qsns in between - what type of qsns are these generally? How much time you usually devote to one RC in a test?

Hi,
First of all, by skipping i mean make a guess and move on and do it only when you want to makeup for the lost time. Do this process for questions which on the first glimpse look difficult to solve or difficult to comprehend.
In RC i never rush through the passage i take as much time as i need to comprehend, but i try not to spend more than a minute on answering RC ques.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
Sorry for the late response.
I used magoosh and gmat club tests for quant, Official mocks are the best. You can use MGMAT mocks as well but not for the scores, only for your timing practice. I also used to watch various webinar of my weak topics on youtube, that really helped me a lot.
Do let me know in case of any other help.

Thanks

My official mock details are as follows :-

1 Official mock 1- 24th July 2021 - 650 (q48 v31)
2 Official mock 2- 29th july 2021 - 700 (q50 v34)
---got some medical condition and was on complete bed rest for 10 days, therefore was not able to give any mock during that period
3 Official mock 3- 12th Aug 2021 - 630 (q45 v31)
4 Official mock 4- 15th Aug 2021 - 690 (q48 v36)

I think giving yourself some time to keep studying for the GMAT to raise your score at least another 20 points would be helpful. Have you made any decisions on how to move forward?
